Alex has served in a range of Deputy Secretary and senior executive positions across multiple portfolios, including Education, Human Services, Precincts, Justice and Health, and led the establishment of the Melbourne Arts Precinct entity and capital delivery program as A/CEO.

In these roles, Alex has steered large-scale transformations, navigated politically charged environments, and delivered outcomes at the intersection of policy, strategy and operations. He has earned a reputation for bringing clarity to complexity, designing innovative and sustainable organisational models, and winning the confidence of boards, CEOs and ministers.

In his career to date, Alex has:

• Supported a range of community sector organisations and government entities in designing and delivering organisational and service transformation, and developing culture and change management approaches.
• Restructured corporate and service delivery operations at a major government department, covering 13,000 staff across 50 locations. This included establishing a new regional and area-based service delivery model and transformed central and corporate functions, including significant staff realignment supported by a department-wide change program.
• Directly managed and transformed a range of complex and high-profile service delivery, operational and corporate functions across government, ranging from 100 to 500 staff and including a series of rapid and successful start-up and scale-up operations.
• Established a new government portfolio, including policy leadership through cabinet, strategic planning and economic modelling, sector engagement and establishment of a new operating model and cross government governance arrangements.
• Led a series of large-scale Machinery of Government changes, including the amalgamation and separation of various government departments.

Provided 15 years of individual coaching and mentoring, particularly supporting aspiring executives into senior leadership roles.

Additional highlights by role

• As the establishment lead and acting CEO of the Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation in 2021/2022, he was accountable for $1.5 billion of capital delivery planning, managing statutory planning controls and establishing a new government delivery agency (MAP Co.).
• As Deputy Secretary, Precincts and Suburban Development from 2018 to 2020, he established and led a new government portfolio, bringing together 130 policy and delivery staff, overseeing $100 million of operations and projects.
• As Deputy Secretary, Industry Coordination and Recovery in Victoria’s industry department in 2020, Alex led rapid start up and expansion of a number of high-profile Covid-19 government initiatives, building multiple agile teams of 50 to 100 staff to support implementation of over $500 million of government initiatives.
• As Director of People and Culture at the then Department of Human Services from 2013 to 2015, he led a team of 150 staff delivering all aspects of people services to a workforce of over 14,000 staff.
• As the Director of Youth Justice from 2007 to 2009, he managed Victoria’s custodial centres for young people across three locations, with a workforce of 500 staff and a budget of $50 million.

Alex has an Executive Master of Public Administration from ANZSOG/University of Melbourne. He has also completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) course.

Marc is particularly proud of his work advising profit-to-member super funds over 25 years; and the counsel he has provided to around 110 Australian non-profit and public sector clients, including numerous peaks and advocacy organisations, foundations and charities, sporting bodies and public institutions.

Marc holds bachelors and masters degrees in business from Monash and the Melbourne Business School respectively and a PhD from the University of Melbourne.

He is an Executive in Residence at the Melbourne Business School, where he is also on the advisory board of the Centre for Social Purpose Organisations.

Zoe has extensive experience in leading strategy, planning, growth and organisation projects in the financial services, retail, healthcare and government sectors. Her recent projects have involved:

• Facilitating strategic thinking and strategic planning workshops with a multitude of for profit, not-for-profit and government organisations. Facilitating steering committees (including a diverse range of stakeholders and views) as they oversaw a critical organisation change. Developing a strategy and organisation design for a disruptive specialty retailer with a promising growth trajectory.
• Working with several organisations in the financial services and travel and leisure sectors to help board and executive teams rethink their vision and purpose statements to help guide strategic decision making.
• Facilitating staff and board workshops with one of Australia’s largest industry super funds. Working with a large client team to transform a financial services organisation’s approach to growth strategy, from executing priority growth options to supporting a subcommittee of senior directors to advance the merger agenda.
• Leading organisation redesign projects for wealth management, superannuation and telecommunications industry clients. Helping clients to design and operationalise integrated performance management systems, from corporate balanced scorecards to individual KPI frameworks. Working with marketing, business development and operations teams to improve the effectiveness of their structures, processes, resource allocation and performance management.

Before joining Right Lane Consulting, Zoe had 15 years’ experience in operational and management roles. She was previously a business manager, financial controller and management accountant in the publishing, entertainment, communications and IT security industries. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne and an MBA from Melbourne Business School.

Her recent experience has included:

• Working alongside an executive director of Australia’s biggest public transport project – to bring their team together, to connect, and align on the key priorities for the team for the next 12-18 months. This included agreeing measures of success and ways of working to deliver their program of work effectively.
• Working with the CEO and board of a community affordable housing organisation in Sydney’s west to agree their overall strategic direction and aspiration and consider key strategic questions to set them up for future success and to assess their investment pipeline and growth strategy.
• Working with the head of External Affairs of a peak body in the energy industry, Gemma worked collaboratively with the team to develop a set of ‘mega themes’ to better define their work priorities and align their work to the broader organisational goals.

Prior to joining Right Lane Consulting, Gemma was director of Strategic Engagement at Industry Super Australia where she was responsible for strengthening relationships between ISA and key stakeholders. Gemma has built her successful career as a skilled leader bringing complex stakeholders together, solving complex problems and leading and driving outcomes.

Gemma was also previously a trustee director of AustralianSuper, a director of Industry Fund Services and a member of the senior team at the ACTU. She worked in senior roles in the trade union movement for twenty years, including leading organisational reviews for the ACTU. She is a skilled facilitator and enjoys working with boards and teams across a variety of sectors, with her passion being in housing, gender and sustainability.

Gemma is a director of the progressive think tank Per Capita and holds a Master’s degree in Communication from RMIT, an Honours degree in Women’s Studies and Politics from Monash University and is a graduate of the AICD Company Directors course.

Dom specialises in designing business models and operating structures that improve financial sustainability and performance while staying true to an organisation’s mission. He supports Boards and leadership teams to move from strategy to action, covering planning, financial modelling, and implementation.

He is skilled at simplifying complex challenges and bringing people together to make decisions. Dominic has led projects on organisational design, process improvement, and capability building to help organisations grow, adapt, and deliver greater impact.

Dom holds an Executive MBA from UNSW, a Master of Policy Studies from UNSW, and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from UTS.

Dom holds a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Policy Studies from the University of New South Wales, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Technology, Sydney. His passion for building the capability of social impact organisations to commercially thrive and deliver impact at scale aligns perfectly with Right Lane’s purpose.

Over the past four years, Ellie has advised leading super funds and global asset owners on best-practice investment governance and organisational effectiveness at board and investment committee level.  Prior to this, she spent 14 years as a strategic retirement consultant, helping clients develop and implement retirement and risk management strategies. Ellie has helped super funds strengthen investment governance, align strategy with long-term member outcomes, and navigate increasingly complex regulatory and risk environments. A qualified actuary, she brings a rare combination of technical expertise and strategic insight, honed through more than a decade of advising large funds in the UK on de-risking, funding and retirement solutions. Her career demonstrates a consistent ability to manage complex, high-stakes projects for institutional clients.

Ellie’s experience translates directly into today’s context of Australian superannuation, where governance, retirement adequacy, and risk management are under intense regulatory and stakeholder scrutiny. She is adept at helping boards navigate these challenges, bringing clarity to technical issues, and ensuring member and sponsor perspectives are carefully aligned.

Ellie has a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Applied Mathematics from University of Birmingham, Master of Mathematics (first class honors) from University of Leeds.
